Five Ghanaians have died while attempting to enter the United States through an unapproved route on the Panamanian-Colombian border.

The Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Regional Integration confirmed this in a statement Tuesday.

The cause of their death was not revealed.

The press statement signed by the Deputy Director at the Ministry, McArious A. Akanbong revealed that the five were among a group of seven Ghanaians who were also part of some 35 migrants heading to the United States through two South American countries, Panama and Mexico.

According to the statement, similar deaths of Ghanaians have occurred on the Panama-Mexico route.

The statement revealed that many migrants from Ghana make the dangerous journey through the Brazilian amazon through Colombia, Panama and Mexico.

The Ministry, however, promised to provide any prospective traveler with advice to preempt risks to their lives.

The Ministry has admonished travelers to use appropriate and lawful means to embark on their journeys.

About 80 Ghanaian nationals are still believed to be in the forest trying to cross the border from Colombia to Panama with the hope of making it to the USA.
